⚙️ Setting up MaxiCloud in an email client

IMAP, SMTP and POP3 settings for Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, iPhone and Android.

The webmail is available at mail.maxicloud.ch with no configuration at all. This article is for those who prefer their own mail software.

The settings

Server Port Encryption
IMAP (recommended) mail.maxicloud.ch 993 SSL/TLS
SMTP (sending) mail.maxicloud.ch 587 STARTTLS
SMTP (alternative) mail.maxicloud.ch 465 SSL/TLS
POP3 mail.maxicloud.ch 995 SSL/TLS

Username: your full email address, for example first.last@yourdomain.ch — not just the part before the @.

Password: your mailbox password. It is not your MaxiHoster client area password.

Authentication is required for sending. If your software offers an “Outgoing server requires authentication” checkbox, tick it and reuse the same credentials as for receiving.

IMAP or POP3?

Choose IMAP. Your messages stay on the server, and folders, read status and deletions apply across all your devices. Essential as soon as you check your mail from more than one place.

POP3 downloads messages to a single device and removes them from the server. If you use it unknowingly, you may find your mailbox empty elsewhere.

Automatic configuration

On most software, entering your email address and password is enough: the settings are detected automatically. Only enter the values from the table if detection fails.

Outlook

File → Add account → enter the address → Advanced optionsLet me set up my account manuallyIMAP, then apply the values from the table.

Apple Mail (macOS)

Mail → Settings → Accounts → +Other Mail Account. After the expected failure of automatic detection, the server fields appear.

iPhone and iPad

Settings → Apps → Mail → Accounts → Add Account → OtherAdd Mail Account. Choose IMAP at the top of the next screen, then complete the incoming and outgoing servers.

For the full experience — instant notifications, offline mode — prefer the MaxiCloud app, which uses JMAP rather than IMAP.

Android

The Gmail app accepts third-party accounts: Menu → Settings → Add account → Other → enter the address, then choose IMAP.

Here too, the MaxiCloud app is noticeably more responsive.

Thunderbird

Accounts → Existing email address. After detection, click Manual config to check that port 993 with SSL/TLS and port 587 with STARTTLS are selected.

If it does not work

“Wrong password” when it is correct — check that the username is the full address. This is by far the most common cause.

Receiving works but sending fails — outgoing server authentication is not enabled.

Port 25 does not work — that is normal, it is blocked by most internet providers. Use 587 or 465.

No connection at all — make sure encryption is enabled. We accept no unencrypted connections.

If the problem persists, write to support@maxihoster.com with your software, its version and the exact error message.
